2018 Mission Report

To God be all the glory and praise…… the 2018 mission held October 8-12, 2018 in Iree, Osun State of Nigeria was highly successful.  Just as before, Engr. Dr. Bunmi Ajayi, his beloved wife, their entire family, and the staff provided  whatever was needed to ensure an excellent and productive mission.  As for the previous year, Engr. Ajayi and his wife not only delightfully hosted us, but he also contacted and implored Iree indigenes who are in the medical field – especially doctors and pharmacists to join us for the medical mission.

As in 2017, our team met with the King’s Council and the leadership of Iree Progressive Association on Tuesday morning and sought to understand the potential issues about the current state of the Welfare Center, which used to be a well-managed and reputable clinic/hospital for people in Iree and environ.  The discussions triggered extremely high interests in devoting collective efforts towards getting the run-down Welfare Center back to being the place where healthcare is fully delivered to people in the area as was previously the case.  As a result, the medical mission team toured the Welfare Center with the leadership of Iree Progressive Association.  This was followed by prompt actions by the Iree Progressive Association (with the blessings of the King’s Council) that led to an inspection of the Center by delegates from the Ministry of Health within a few days with a promise to do something about the pathetic state of the Welfare Center.

Once more, the chiefs, religious and prominent leaders of Iree were very welcoming and supportive.  The readiness meeting and set-up was on Tuesday evening at the location of the medical mission, Iree Premier Club.  The main work areas such as Patient Registration desks, Nurse’s Station, Medical Screening, Pharmacy, Triaging, Dental Work, Doctor’s Rooms, and visual screening for eyeglasses were mapped and properly labeled. We started off with prayers around 8:00 on Wednesday morning and started seeing patients by 8:30.  We had 14 doctors, 6 Pharmacists, 2 dentists, several nurses, 2 lab scientists, coordinators, IT folks, and efficient clinical operations management team.  We saw about 390 ppl on Wed, a little over 700 on Thursday and roughly 200 on Fri (1/2 day). Overall, it was a lot of hard work which fully paid off at the end. I want to seize this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to everyone for the prayers, donations, thoughtfulness and kind support.
